Volunteer

A’s & Aces is recruiting volunteers to assist 2nd-6th grade school children with reading, homework, life skills and/or tennis.

We use the USTA’s QuickStart Tennis programming (portable short courts with small rackets and large foam balls) on the elementary school playgrounds.  The model varies according to each school’s situation, but usually we rotate the groups with half of the children having tennis instruction and the other half receiving academic assistance/life skills.

We have volunteer opportunities to work with our staff at one of the following schools each weekday; locations and times are:

Arthur Ashe Charter (3649 Laurel St.); M & W, 4:30-6:00
Milestone Sabis Academy (at Dillard University, 2601 Gentilly Blvd); F, 3:30-5:30 and Sat, 9:30-11:00
Lafayette Academy Charter (2727 S. Carrollton Ave., at Walmsley Ave.); M & W, 9:15-11:00AM
Edward Hynes Charter at Dillard University (2601 Gentilly Blvd); T & Th, 3:00-5:15

Enthusiasm is required, but no tennis/tutoring experience is necessary.  Training will be provided.  Adults, retirees, college and mature high school students are welcome; students can earn required community service hours through this program.

Background check is required for all staff and volunteers working with children.

If you or someone you know may be interested please contact us at: Info@AsAndAces.org

We also welcome volunteers to help with fundraising, resource management, and other activities.
